Daily Dose (15min) of Learning German

Updated: Sep 10

And this text itself is less than 15 min to read through.. 😅

i) Daily listening or speaking

The best way to know if someone is good at a language is if they can speak and listen to a conversation in it. Although trying to develop conversation skills on your own can be quite challenging, there are 2 ways to go about doing this on your own.

- Record & listen back to your own conversation to notice the errors, and re-record your speaking of German. Alternatively, you can share it with your colleagues or with your tutor to check your recordings.

- Apps: Out of the abundance of conversation apps available out there (iTalki, Lingoda), the one that I can recommend the most is Falou (https://falou.com/). It costs just $20 per annum (not month!) and you can keep practicing speaking German with this AI-powered app.

ii) Daily dose of vocabs:

I mean, vocabulary is, after all, the building blocks of a new language you are learning, so learning new words every day helps you build confidence slowly. Think about it, x3 new words per day times 365 days—how many new words have you learned?

There are 2 wordplay apps I would highly recommend you the most

- Drops --> Anyone can use this app for just 5 minutes each day to learn a minimum of 10 new words. https://languagedrops.com/

- WordUp --> While Drops is a faced-pace 5-minute learning of new German words, this one is more of slow-paced learning and is based on your level of German (https://www.wordupapp.co/)

iii) Daily articles:

While the first two learning styles are crucial for developing your sentence and vocabulary skills, reading articles can help reassure you about your German knowledge by confirming whether the sentences you have constructed and the new words you have learned are being used correctly. Any sort of article, whether it's a new article or a life improvement article, will simply highlight sentence structuring and word applications of the German language.

Though I would recommend many articles, whether easy or difficult, that you can go and check out, I think it's safe to say nowadays that ChatGPT can just give you better formulated articles in accordance with your level and development needs.

iv) Daily dose of short videos

I have written here as short videos, as in 15-minute videos, whether from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, or any other social media platform. As someone starting from the beginner level, watching Netflix-Series or movies to learn the German language is NOT highly encouraged, as there'll be so many German words that'll be spoken at a pace that is difficult to follow through on, let alone to comprehend overall about the series or the movies. Running them at a slow pace doesn't make it any better either, as you'll be watching it only to get bored fast. 🥱

But still there are many awesome reels and short videos every day to watch lazily...😪 while just lying on your bed or couch, and my favorite ones to follow on any social media platform would be 'EasyGerman,' 'Learn German with Anja,' and 'German bei Oleg.' 😀😀😎
