When people think of Germany, cities like Berlin, Munich, or Hamburg immediately comes to their minds, right? And yeah, they're awesome. But today, I want to tell you about a real hidden gem, a city that I think is totally underrated: Leipzig!
I spent some time there, and guys, I'm telling you... this city is absolutely insane. So buckle up and listen up, here are my reasons why you absolutely have to put Leipzig on your list!

Insane Architecture from Another Time
Okay, let's start with the obvious one. When you walk through the city center, you feel like you've stepped into a time machine. The old buildings are just breathtaking! The Old Town Hall, St. Nicholas Church, all the historic passageways... you can just wander through the alleys for hours and never stop being amazed. Every corner is just screaming, "Take a picture of me!" It's wild how well-preserved everything is.
A Buzzing Student Hub

First off, Leipzig is a massive student city, and you feel that vibe everywhere. There are pretty much many universitites located in Leipzig, with the main ones being at least 15. The city is packed with young people, which means there are tons of cool, quirky cafes, awesome bars, and a super chill atmosphere day and night. You can just feel that the city is alive and buzzing with energy. It's the kind of place where something fun is always happening around the next corner.

Your Wallet Will Thank You
Now for the part that blew my mind: It's ridiculously cheap to live here! Seriously, the rent prices are a total joke compared to other big German cities like Munich or Hamburg. You can actually live a great life without stressing about every single cent, even in the midst of current rising prices in Germany. I was genuinely shocked at how affordable such an awesome and vibrant European city could be.
Pure Nature (with a Little Twist!)

Need a break from the city life? No problem! Leipzig is incredibly green. There are countless parks and lakes (the "Neuseenland"!) right on your doorstep. Perfect for chilling, having a barbecue, or biking. But now for the cultural "wow" moment for me as a Malaysian: in some of these parks, there are "FKK" areas. Yep, you heard that right, it's that naked parks where people sunbathe! At first, it was definitely... different for me, even for any foreigner, but haha! But it just shows how open-minded and relaxed the people are here. Mad respect!
Where East Meets West
Leipzig has a super interesting vibe because it's where old East German history collides with modern, western culture. You can feel the history on every corner, especially when you think about the Peaceful Revolution of 1989, which started right here. At the same time, the city is incredibly creative, full of artists and startups, which is pretty much like This mix is just one-of-a-kind in Germany.
For the Football Fans: RB Leipzig!

Of course, we have to talk about football! RB Leipzig is rocking the Bundesliga, and the energy on a match day is absolutely insane. They are considered a top 4 team that qualifies almost all the time to Champions League, so it's really worthwhile watching their games, you'll love it! If you get the chance, you have to go to a game. The entire city is buzzing, and it's something you just have to experience!

The Perfect Hub for Adventure
Another huge plus: the location! From Leipzig, you can get to other cool cities super fast. A day trip to Dresden with its famous church of Frauenkirche? Or a visit to Zwickau, the birthplace of the composer Schumann? It's all easy and quick to get to. Leipzig is the perfect base camp for exploring eastern Germany.
So guys, my verdict is this: Forget the usual suspects for a moment and give Leipzig a chance! The city has it all: mind-blowing architecture, a young and vibrant flair, it's super affordable, and it has a fascinating culture.
Pack your bags and see it for yourself. You won't regret it!
